Attention [SPEED] Galaxy 18 open for sign up

Alright, it's time to offer a different format. This one is for all you speed freaks out there! A Speed Galaxy with tick times starting at 1 min per turn, and "slowing down" to 2.5 minutes at the higher turns!

Don't worry, we have tested this before and it's absolutely do-able with those exact time-settings. It helps though if you do have at least some minimal knowledge of governors, that help you with taking over some micro-management stuff.

So how does it work? A speed Galaxy is split into 2 sessions, we play for 5 hours on Saturday, and another 5 hours on Sunday, so please do only sign up if you got time to play on Saturday AND Sunday! There are 3 breaks during these 5 hours, in total you are only actually playing 4 hours out of these 5 - the rest are breaks.

Everything in the game runs twice as fast: ships fly twice their regular speed, buildings and research take half the time. This way the action heats up a lot quicker!

This particular Speed Galaxy is taking place on Saturday, June 27th and Sunday June 28th. Don't worry if you can't make it this weekend, we will offer them regularly from now on, possibly even every weekend!

Every player that is participating needs to be online and INSIDE the galaxy at least 15 minutes before the ticks start! (You will be notified via email when it is time to enter the galaxy) That is the moment when the real size of the galaxy is determined, depending on the number of players that show up. At this point the galaxy will be re-shuffled. You will not lose any Governors, Production-Queues or Ship-Designs during this process.

The galaxy starts its ticks at 17:00 CET (11:00 ET, 8:00 PT), both on Saturday and Sunday. Here's the exact tick schedule.

Day 1:

0:00 - turn 0..29: 1 min ticks
0:30 - turn 30..60: 1.5 min ticks
1:15 - 15 min break at turn 60
1:30 - turn 61..80: 2 min ticks
2:10 - 30 min break at turn 80
2:40 - turn 81..100: 2.5 min ticks
3:30 - 15 min break at turn 100
3:45 - turn 101..130: 2.5 min ticks
5:00 - turn 130 end of day 1

Day 2:

0:00 - turn 131..154: 2.5 min ticks
1:00 - 15 min break at turn 154
1:15 - turn 155..179: 2.5 min ticks
2:15 - 30 min break at turn 179
2:45 - turn 180..204: 2.5 min ticks
3:45 - 15 min break at turn 204
4:00 - turn 205..230: 2.5 min ticks
5:00 - turn 230 end of game

Please do only sign up if you got time to play both on Saturday AND Sunday!

The game starts at 17.00 CET ( thats UTC + 1 ) the 0.00 means the start of the galaxy, 0.30 is half an hour later. that would be 17.30 CET

Ups I somehow thought it starts a few hours later. But it still starts late, but I'll try to play. Smile

I'm used to all nighters, it's just that it could at least sometimes start in the middle of a day. Smile

I think Erwin puts it at that specific time so people from Europe and America(most of the player base), can play during the day.

Unfortunately there is always night somewhere. Kind of hard to accommodate everyone, I think that is why he picks that start time.

If it is late for you, you must be in eastern Europe, Asia, or Australia.

I guess if the format becomes popular enough, he could have 2 speed rounds each weekend of this format set 12 hours apart. One for Europe and America and the other for the rest of the world. Therefore everyone could play during the day. Although I don't think we have the numbers for that right now.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to play it this weekend. Saturday is good for me I am not busy, however Sunday during the afternoon I am busy moving my best friend(Xiiro, CS name) to his new house just outside of Ottawa. So I won't be playing.

If there is another game next weekend(July 4th & 5th), I won't be able to play that either, since it is his wedding and I am an usher at it. So won't be until the weekend after that until I am available.

This is a fun format, it almost feels like real-time, so have fun you guys!

RE: [SPEED] Galaxy 18 open for sign up

Can I still sign up?

Posted by Shadow2692 on 27.06.2009 at05:12:

I was so sure I'd be able to make it for the speed game, and now it looks like I'll be out for the first two hours of the Sunday round. Crying

Any chance I can get removed from the galaxy? Or is there automatic cleanup 15 minutes before game starts?

Posted by River Reaper on 27.06.2009 at05:14:

  Speed

I'll take your place!!

Posted by Erwin [CS] on 27.06.2009 at11:02:

There will be an automatic cleanup 15 minutes before the ticks start.

And River, unfortunately you can't join since it's up to Rank 1 only. I'll have a Speed Galaxy for rank 1 and higher next weekend.

I'm so exited about upcoming speed galaxy Smile
It sure will be nice experience Smile
I'm just not sure if it is possible to play so fast. Smile
