King of the Hill
From Chat...
‹Confused› but next MTG i wanna try something special
‹Confused› for next one im proposing 4 teams of 4
‹Confused› now, the map would be 9 by 9, 2D
‹Confused› each team has a 4 by 4 home area in a corner
‹Confused› this leaves a 'cross' shaped neutral zone between the teams
‹Confused› rules would be : in neutral zone attacks can be made any time
‹tingling› i think daryl suggested the neutral zone too
‹Confused› except in the one system in the very middle of the map
‹tingling› the river thing.. (sorry.. you go on and finish first)
‹Confused› where i would be living (id be in no team)
‹tingling› ahh.. ok.. that sounds interesting .. and different
‹Confused› from turn 100 on, teams can also attack other teams in their home zones
‹tingling› (i dont mind 5 teams.. it makes 3 v 2 possible)
‹Confused› and can attack me if they like
‹Confused› (id be just building PD obviously)
‹Confused› there are 2 victory conditions
‹Confused› either by total domination
‹Confused› or if you can hold the center system for 25 turns
‹tingling› i wouldnt touch your pd
‹Confused› which means taking it from me obviously
‹Radiance› Hmm, you could be neutral party, and out-of-bounds to attack your HQ
‹tingling› then again.. it's an interesting proposition
‹tingling› more of a king of the hill then?
‹Confused› yup thats the idea
‹tingling› you better call yourself orion or something
‹Confused› and well tingling, remember, i wont leave my home system
‹Confused› so my research will at some point start lagging behind
‹Radiance› like, very early
‹tingling› and we do have 4 or more players to build bombers
‹Confused› so my PD will be good, obviously, but it will be doable to take the planets
‹Radiance› very doable with too few planets to research with
‹tingling› i'd give it a go (although i prefer to try a regular tg with deep systems first)..
‹tingling› i asked erwin and he said we can actually do a 9 deep regular tg too.. just 4 rows each side with neutral river in middle too
‹Confused› and Radiance, why keep my home planet off limits? im neutral party anyways, so when im dead, if someone holds the center system, the send me a screenshot of it, and the 25 turns timer starts
‹Radiance› cuz if yr home planet is not off limits, it gets obliterated, even if you ARE Confused.
* tingling quit (timeout)
‹Confused› thats the whole point obviously
‹Confused› im just there to provide a challenge while grabbing that system
‹Confused› not to play to survive
‹Radiance› Maybe you're off-limits for 100 turns and then its go-for-it
‹Confused› ah yes, i said that
‹Radiance› Maybe the white area is entirely off-limits for 100 turns--no scouting it even--and then go-for it, find Confused; eat him, keep "The Hill" for 25 turns
‹Radiance› Maybe 150 turns would be better, and you get all the white systems for science.
‹tingling› we dont win even if we find confused and obliterate him
‹tingling› so i think even if confused is disadvantaged.. it wouldnt be too bad..
‹tingling› just not too fun for confused if he gets taken out early and we end up fighting among ourselves.. hmm
‹Confused› remember : if a team holds the center system for 25 turns, they win
‹Confused› and Radiance, give me 100 turns on 5 planets, and i'll have PD4 defenses up

King of the Hill continued
‹Confused› and Radiance, give me 100 turns on 5 planets, and i'll have PD4 defenses up
‹tingling› should the hq be super juicy? or super unjuicy? (so it's harder for other players to protect)
‹Confused› id say bgetter than other planets, but nothing too fancy
‹Confused› better*
‹tingling› biobombs allowed?
‹Confused› all is fair in love and war
‹Confused› the strategic challenge will be that, if you want my system, you'll have to bring a decent fleet. Which wont be doing any attacking other teams. Which could attack you while you're trying to dislodge me.
‹Radiance› I think 5 x3 x 5 is better and no need for a River. Each team has a side added, so it is even and same shape
‹Radiance› Confused gets the 3 Center systems, and the Hill is Dead Center.
‹Confused› well, i wanted the river to get things fired up early on
‹Radiance› Home systems should be very juicy to give Confused more Scientists‹
‹tingling› (i like a river better.. although i personally like to make early ingling› but in terms of new weapons and stuff.. it's still gonna be some waitrushes and be aggressive
Okies to avoid any and all confusion, i'll put this down in a more structured manner
So, thats the map
it's only 2D.
- each big colored block are the systems considered 'core systems' for a team
- the orange system is 'the hill'
- the white systems are the 'neutral systems.
PROPOSED RULES :
1) all members of the same team have to ally up obviously
2) team 'core' systems cannot be entered by any other team until turn 150
3) the hill (orange) cannot be attacked until turn 100
4) the neutral systems (white) can be fought over from the start
5) there is no need for full teams to declare war on other full teams. This will make skirmishing for the neutral systems easier.
6) aside from the obvious total domination, there is another victory condition : King of the Hill. When a team can grab the whole center system and hold onto it for 25 turns, they win. Whenever a team achieves total control over this system, they send a screenshot to the neutral party (the player who originally was in the center system. for the first go it would be me). The 25 turn timer then goes in. The neutral party will then post that screenshot on the forum 5 turns later (with another 20 turns to go).
I think that kinda sums it up

Looks great. Does 25 turns seem like enough? Seems short, but I suppose maybe it is long enough to hold.
I considered that too, but then again, part of the strategic challenge lies in the fact that if you focus too much on fighting other teams, one of the other teams might win sneakily by grabbing the center system while your team's fleet is totally out of position. So you need to make a choice between overrunning another team, or keeping the fleet within range to grab one of those center system planets when needed.

I'm all for it, though i'll be quite busy from thursday to sunday this weekend and from wednesday to saturday the weekend after. If we set start date the weekend after that, or even 2, then i'm available for some PD wizardry

I'd be interested as long as the start date is Mid-August (Specifically start date after 14th August). I've certainly got some making up to do after last Galaxy

7x2x7 or 5x3x5
and Confused gets all the center systems. You only have to take the whole HQ system. The others are for science so he has the citizenry to research PD.
You are DEFINITELY going to need more than 100 turns unless research modifier is 400 (might be a good idea).
Shall Confused have 150 turns or 200 turns to PD in peace?
Radiance, i really dont need more than a home system with a home and 4 juicies, and i'll show you what that can do
give me more and you might be facing a PD that will be invulnerable till teams reach large heavy fleets
You know im capable of fielding 1.3 mil hp defenses and up in very little time
I'd like a challenge too

and i usually have only 7-8 research planets, the rest being mining planets
add to that that i wont need to build colony ships, allowing me to turn home planet into a research wonder very early, and not needing a lot of traits in race (i can get 2 free picks from : firepower, speed, mining, and if i really want to overdo it, troops), etc ... all i need to research are : factories, unis, docs : repro-manu-stronghold, and the rest are PD levels .... really, it'll be hard enough with 'only' 5 juicy planets
