When building on a planet’s surface, each succeeding structure will cost more than the previous, as determined by this formula:
Build-Cost = (4 + (3 + Already-Existing-Facility-Count) * Already-Existing-Facility-Count) * Facility-Base-Production-Cost / 4
Example:
Facility-Base-Production-Cost: 500
Already-Existing-Facility-Count: 5
Build-Cost = 5500
There are exceptions to this rule, since a few facilites can only be built once per-planet (like Shipyards or Hyperspace Receivers).
Firepower/Shielding is determined by technology level, as listed under Planetary Defense.
