Getting started

cruiser-204_xp.jpg Getting started in Cosmic Supremacy is a quick and easy process.

Within a few minutes you can create an account and start playing the game!

The following instructions will guide you through this process:

Step 1: Create an account

You need to register to the game. To do so choose a username, which you will use in-game and in the forum. You need to enter a valid email address, as you will receive an activation email.

Once you receive the activation email, click the link in it to confirm your registration. Delivery of that email should be a matter of minutes, but with some email providers delivery can take up to 24 hours! If you think something went wrong, please do contact support.

Step 2: Download the client software

destroyer1a.jpg In order to play Cosmic Supremacy, you need to download the client software and install it. Please follow the instructions during the installation process.

Please note: If you do not have sufficient user rights to fully install the game, a warning will be displayed. Most likely it will fail to register the file-association (.csgalaxy) and mime-type. These are not required to play the game! However, it will make it easier to enter a galaxy. Please read the chapter “How to install and play without administration rights” in the download section for further information.

Step 3: Play the tutorial

If you are new to the game, there is a compulsory tutorial you will need to first complete. It should take only 10-20 minutes, and is meant to introduce you to the basics of the game. The tutorial galaxy can be launched just the same way as other galaxies, as is described in Step 5 below. Once you finish the tutorial galaxy, you can then proceed to Step 4.

If you get stuck in the tutorial, there is a walkthrough here, but you are strongly encouraged to try out the tutorial on your own first.

To replay the tutorial once you have finished it, simply follow this link

Step 4: Sign up to a galaxy

Once you have completed the tutorial, you are now ready to pick the galaxy in which you want to play. On the right hand side of the game website, you can see a list of currently running Galaxies that are ready to sign up to. Clicking on the galaxy link will bring up detailed information, like the number of players, the length of one turn, and when the ticks are being started.

If you are new to the game, you will need to join one of the unranked galaxies to have your first tastes of the game. Once you do decently well in the galaxy, you may then join galaxies with more experienced players. Because the unranked galaxies are only limited to beginner players who are still exploring the game, it can prove to be a fertile playground for you to test out strategies at a casual pace. The ranked galaxies are often much different, and will be more competitive.

A new unranked galaxy is scheduled to open about every 9-12 days (usually on a Wednesday or Friday). If you would like to have a custom galaxy open for you and your friends, you may post a request in the forums. Meanwhile, you may join the sandbox galaxy while you wait for an unranked galaxy to open up.

Once you have decided to sign up for a galaxy, you can click on the “Sign up” button for a respective galaxy, and a planet will be assigned to you in that galaxy. This process can take a few seconds.

Step 5: Enter a galaxy

Once you have signed up to a particular galaxy you can click “Enter Galaxy” at any time, to check the state of your empire, and to give orders to your fleets and planets.

When clicking “Enter Galaxy” in your browser a small file is sent to your computer. We call this the “Galaxy-Pass”, as it contains the necessary information to access your empire. Your browser will pop up a requester that asks you what to do with that file.

Click “Open”. We also recommend to tick “Do this automatically for files like this from now on”, which will suppress this requester the next time you enter the galaxy. This will allow you to subsequently enter a galaxy with a single click.

Alternatively, you can drag and drop the galaxypass file onto the Cosmic Supremacy executable.

Please note that a Galaxy-Pass is only valid for 3 minutes! If you try to use a Galaxy-Pass that is older than that, the server will return the error “Galaxy-Pass is corrupt or has expired”. Otherwise, the Cosmic Supremacy client should start up and display a progress bar. It will login and download the latest galaxy-data from the server. This process should only take a few seconds.

At this point, you can change the connection settings, and specify that you are behind a firewall or playing via a proxy. Please read the chapter “How to play from behind a firewall” in the download section, if you have troubles connecting to the server.

Need more help ?

You can read the game’s mechanics in the manual here. There are also further videos made by players at the end of the guides section that introduce basic gameplay.

Alternatively, if you still have questions to ask about the game, feel free to send a pm to one of the player-admins or drop by the chat room to ask a question. Someone usually drops by once a day to see if there are questions posted by new players in the chat room.

Last but not least, if you would like to be part of the community, you may also introduce yourself to in the forums too!

Enjoy the game!
